Jeera Aloo

This is a dry dish which goes well with a simple yellow dal and rice or hot phulkas.


Ingredients:
  • 2-3 large potatoes
  • 1/2 inch ginger root
  • 1 green chilly
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 small/medium tomatoes
  • Large pinch of hing (asafoetida)
  • Jeera powder
  • Dhania powder
  • Jeera seeds
  • Oil
  • Salt



Instructions:

  1. Peel and dice potatoes
  2. Chop ginger fine, slice green chillies and finely chop tomatoes
  3. In hot oil, put a tiny piece of hing (about size of a pea), and 1/2 tsp jeera seeds
  4. Then add ginger, green chillies and tomatoes and fry
  5. Add 1 tbsp jeera powder, 1/2 tsp haldi and salt to taste
  6. Put in the potatoes and mix well
  7. Cover and cook on slow fire till dry
  8. Sprinkle more jeera powder and 1 tbsp dhania powder and keep stirring till well coated and dry
